Our Guide To Optimal Ancestral Beauty
Throughout the history of humankind, our bodies were perfectly conditioned for an environment that no longer exists. As a species, we adapted in response to our surroundings, which is why we grow hair, have thick skin, and the capacity for strong, lean muscles.
It’s our responsibility to recreate the environments that enabled us for millenia if we wish to thrive in the modern world.
By incorporating some basic principles to guide us in living closer to our ancestral environments, we overcome obstacles between ourselves and true health and happiness.
LET THIS BE YOUR GUIDE to living a more ancestral and fulfilling life. Adopt The 9 Beauty Basics to achieve your highest potential and realize your most beautiful form. Embrace a life that is closer to your true nature. Lead others in joining you so that we can create and shape a better future.
Start today, and start small if you have to, but take action now and experience for yourself the magic of our primal roots.
Our ancestors worked hard, but they likely didn’t have to put much effort into getting deep, restorative sleep. A full day’s worth of the mental and physical challenges they faced to survive and thrive was enough to wear them out by time the stars above started offering a glimpse of their glimmer. Pair that with an environment free from non-native lights and distractions…sleep came easy as the last embers of the fire burned low.
As a result of this nourishing sleep, they were naturally rewarded with a sharp mind, a free-moving body, and a youthful glow. You, too, can achieve this and encourage your body’s natural pathway to a plumper, brighter, and a healthier complexion by prioritizing 7-9 hours to deep, restful Beauty Sleep every night.
From a biological perspective, our genes are 99.9% the same as our ancestors from over the last 40,000 years, and no early human diet was completely free of animal foods . Our digestive and gut functions have evolved from an animal-based diet, and our bodies rely on the vitamins and minerals found only in animal foods for optimal function.
Skin health is inextricably linked to gut and digestive health, and there’s no path to a healthy, glowing complexion without a nourishing diet. Like our ancestors and many modern day cultures, seeking out the most nutrient-dense of these animal foods, like liver and bone marrow, is one way to ensure your nutritional needs are met. Incorporating organ meats - aka eating nose-to-tail - can calm inflammation and provide essential nutrients necessary for proper bodily function. Grass-fed liver from pasture-raised cows is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet and supports the genetic expression of everything in your physiology, like immune function, energy metabolism, and healthy joints, skin, hair, gums and teeth.
Animal fats like tallow and butter, as well as raw dairy and eggs, are other sources of real, nourishing energy that serve as building blocks for healthy cells and optimized hormones. Animal fats are vital for skin cell integrity and can improve a number of skin issues, transforming your health from the inside out.
When we fuel our bodies with healthy foods, we absorb the energetic properties from the sun and soil, connecting us back to nature…to our ancestors…to a better way.
Movement is an integral component to our bodily health and mental wellness. As descendants of hunters and gatherers, being physically fit was necessary for survival - you had no choice but to keep up. We’ve devolved from this in many ways as modern humans, opting for convenience, in many instances, to our own detriment. There has never been a more physically stagnant time in history, as our devices give us quick and easy access to whatever we need, with just a few phone taps.
Exercise increases circulation, which brings vibrancy to the skin and simultaneously lowers cortisol, the body’s stress hormone. Movement helps our bodies feel stronger, more dynamic and energetic, in turn allowing our minds to follow suit. To amplify muscle firmness and tone, move your body every day. Walk, run, dance, lift weights. Tune into your beautiful body and move in ways that feel best for you. No matter how you’re moving, find a way to make it somewhat challenging…this is where the magic and growth happens.
Feeling good internally allows your inner beauty to reflect outwardly…
What we’re protecting ourselves from today looks different than from our ancestors, but threats exist in abundance, nonetheless. Not to fearmonger, but the modern world is riddled with dangerous toxins at every turn…especially for the untrained eye.
Your skin is a direct reflection of this. What you put IN your body is equally as important as what you put ON your body. Many of the products you see on store shelves contain chemicals you can’t pronounce. Cosmetics, perfumes, deodorants, feminine products, non-native clothing materials, and sunscreens are far too often packed with hormone disrupting carcinogens that are wreaking havoc on your hormonal and skin health.
Be conscious and deliberate with what you are consuming. Read ingredient labels and vote with your dollars. Take this seriously, like the quality of your life depends on it (because it does).
We call her Mother for a reason, because she’s tough but fair, cruel yet kind, mystical yet inarguably beautiful. She’s home, and it’s so easy for our busy, domesticated minds to forget all about her. Mother Earth felt the connection to her humble dwellers throughout time, when the brave men and women who trekked across her land walked, ate, and slept directly on her. These days, our paved roads and sky-high stilettos disconnect us from her, both literally and figuratively…and we know she misses us.
When we come into direct contact with the earth, we not only regain the spiritual connection, we benefit physiologically from it. Electrons are absorbed into your body and are likened to antioxidants in their ability to neutralize and prevent inflammation, a primary cause of accelerated skin aging. Connecting physically to the earth (or grounding) also stimulates red blood cell circulation and significantly improves facial skin blood flow, optimizing facial appearance.
Cultivate, value, honor, and celebrate your relationship with Mother Earth. Our birthplace, our roots, our home…our connection to self, each other, and our health in many ways is a return to nature…the rhythms and harmonies and cycles that are ever-present, for us to remember.
It’s time to remember!
Throughout time, our ancestors were exposed to extreme weather conditions and the harshness of the season’s cycles. This made them tough and resilient. This created more robust organisms…humans that found a way, no matter what. We are grateful for the strong ones who survived and endured, and we honor them by seeking discomfort ourselves…by making friends with it.
Intentionally sitting with the cold burns body fat, lifts and tightens the skin, decreases skin puffiness, and constricts the pores, which is all to say it gives your skin a natural-looking glow. And perhaps more important, is that it reminds us of our strength, of our ability to overcome the mind.
The Sun offers deep and profound medicine. The Sun provided our ancestors, and now us, the perfect amount of warmth to sustain life for humans, plants, and animals. Sunlight helps our skin make vitamin D, which is linked to improved skin conditions, improved mood, and preventing tooth decay. Though the benefits of sensible Sun exposure are profound, we certainly acknowledge the risks associated with skin burning and the seriousness of getting too much Sun. Be mindful and listen to your body when enjoying the Sun’s rays…if you start to burn, seek shade, and work your tolerance up by paying close attention to your diet.
What would day be without night? The Moon represents all things feminine, the complementary opposite to the masculine Sun. The Moon was used as a timekeeper, as the phases helped our ancestors keep track of the passing months and seasons. The Moon plays an important role in the Earth’s tides and our female cycles. Reconnecting with the energies of the Moon can create more harmony and understanding of our sacred feminine power.
Struggles look different for everyone, as does the fight to persevere, overcome, and win. For our ancestors, the fight was against the earth’s elements, predators, and the slim odds of survival. The modern-day fight is a mental and spiritual conquest that requires you to RISE ABOVE. Our enemies are insidious and often invisible. It’s our duty to uproot what is no longer serving us and create an energetic shield against those threats. Similar to the practice of cold plunges and hard workouts, these deliberate acts of stress and struggle help to overcome our lower vibrational mind…it helps us remember our strength. Because on the other side is a new belief that you are capable. A confident, primal woman who knows who she is, speaks her truth, and recognizes the potential that she holds…this is the embodiment of beauty.
Our ancestors’ social bonds were one of the greatest keys to ensure human survival. Like the mother who would sacrifice her own life for her baby, community and the preservation of family is in our DNA. With strong tribal bonds we support and are supported by one another. We have value…we are seen and heard…we know our place. It’s fundamental, another non-negotiable. And after the work is done, together we play, a deeply ingrained joy of the human experience. Play is the secret of continual youth. Your radiance and beauty shine outwardly and are reflected back to you by your tribe.
It’s easy to forget in an age of digital media that is successfully polarizing the world that we need each other, and that we are all more alike than we are different. It’s time to come together, no matter your race, gender, political ideology, or any other label that we so readily accept and place on one another.
Bonding is as easy as just showing up and being present. Phones down. Let’s make the most of our precious time together.
Together, we have everything.
